The advantages of live streaming
By Indigestion
Introduction
Why does YouTube, one of the leading audiovisual businesses, stream important live events? Why do they get a huge viewer count in these events? Can you apply these principles in your business?
We will be looking at these questions in this article and hopefully answering them successfully. Read on for more information on live streaming services and why they are useful.
Using a live stream for remote help
Everyone knows about the famous TeamViewer software. It is a piece of software used to view another person’s screen or let them view your screen. This is extremely useful when you want to offer remote help to a single person. But what if you wanted to do that with multiple people?
There’s also an easy solution: live streaming. Whilst TeamViewer allows for someone to view your screen, a live stream allows for many persons to view your screen.
Even better, the live stream includes a voice service which means that you can talk to your viewers and explain what you are doing, whereas other programs such as TeamViewer don’t have that functionality.
Using a live stream to show a business product at a remote location to multiple persons
In the previous section we saw how we could use a live stream to help more than one person simultaneously. However, this can be extended into conferencing. A live stream can be used to show to a group of people your piece of software, in case you can’t physically be at the conference.
This is, live streaming can be used to show your business product at a conference. Live streaming software allows for talking, so you could even talk with other attendees.
Live events engage viewers more
Why do people go to live concerts of their favorite bands instead of just listening to CDs of them?
That’s because the live viewer can hope for something to happen, or can expect something to happen. If what he expects ends up happening, the viewer will feel well since he was right, and everyone likes being right.
Streaming websites
There are a few very good streaming websites. The main problem with that regarding business is that their main users are video game players. This wouldn’t give a very professional image of the business.
Therefore, the few I could suggest for business are the following:
· Livestream: http://www.livestream.com
· Ustream: http://www.ustream.com
· Youtube Live: http://www.youtube.com/live
Other websites you might consider for different purposes, or if you feel that it doesn’t matter what the user base is are the following:
· Justin.tv: http://www.justin.tv
· Own3d.tv: http://www.own3d.tv
The two last ones are the ones I think are best in terms of quality and frame rate. Livestream has so many streams set up that sometimes some streams lag behind and can’t be seen well.
Youtube Live is still in beta phase and I was unable to test it, but it will probably work extremely well.
Conclusion
I hope this was useful for you to see an insight of live streaming and why it might be useful. Make sure to read my article on “Setting up a live stream” so you can learn to set it up with the best quality and lowest bandwidth consumption!
